Felting Wrap-Up

Our January meeting focused on Felting.    We discussed machine felting, hand-felting, and needle felting as well.  On the left, you will see links to the three felting related books which have been added to our guild library.

Here are some tips gleaned from the meeting:

1) Always make a swatch to see how your yarn will react.  Different colors in the same type of yarn may felt at different rates.

2) Use a really big needle (size 19 or 35) to poke a hole in your finished felted fabric to create a quick buttonhole.

3) Make sure you use a zippered pillowcase to felt your items in the washer.   Do not put a mohair project in with a wool project to avoid little pieces of mohair all over the wool project.

4) Once you are done felting, run your empty pillowcase through the dryer.   The little pieces of leftover wool fiber will ball up in the corners of the pillowcase and you can easily pick them out.
