Now, on to Finishing what we started!

If you are like most of us, you probably have some projects that you started and never finished or tried to finish and are just not happy with because after all that work you did, the seams just don't look right or you blocked it lopsided.

Well, Susan Miller from The Yarn Cupboard will be here to show us how to Block, Sew in those Seams and Finish our projects. Looking for a new project, or just want to treat yourself for Valentine's Day? Susan will also have a selection of yarns from her shop for you to choose from.

Our cookie monsters for February are Dottie L and Dottie K.

We have been very lucky with the weather so far, but just in case the weather man doesn't cooperate, be sure to check your email and website before leaving your house Saturday morning.

Does your New Year's Resolution include knitting?

If you resolve this year to knit more, buy a different yarn or try a new technique, then this is the meeting for you!  Bring needles and your favorite yarn. Join us Saturday January 14th from 10am until 12noon.

Julie Ortloff from In-Stitches will be here to show us Cast-On techniques, try a new one or perfect an old one. Julie will also have a trunk show with lots of goodies from Donna's store. Be sure to bring cash or your check book (credit cards welcom also). If you are looking for a particular yarn, be sure to let her know ahead of time so she can bring it with her.

Don't forget with winter in Central New York we can't always count on the weather to cooperate with our meeting day and time. If the forecast is not looking good as we approach Saturday, the officers will decide on the Friday evening before weather or not to cancel and we will post here on the website as well as send an email. So, if you are in doubt on Saturday morning, check the website and email.

Warm yourself and others this December

Please be assured that every item no matter the color size or shape is truly appreciated and in far too many cases is in fact the only gift many will receive.

We sold 59 passports to the shop hop and also accepted cash donations.

November Meeting and Guild Sponsored Retreat

The Retreat committee has been working hard to organize a fun, informative one day event to replace our annual weekend retreat!  Please plan to come early and stay late!

The price is $50 and includes: comfy furniture, breakfast, lunch and a gift bag. In addition, there will be three classes and a vending area featuring many of the shops who support our guild members. Registration and Breakfast start at 8AM, with the first class starting promptly at 8:30.

Members may also choose to attend just the regular meeting from 10AM until 12noon at no cost. Our regular meeting will feature a short business meeting, a lesson on color theory by Jennifer from Holiday Knits as well as a chance to shop the vendor area, knit and chat.

Patterns will be provided the day of the retreat, and you should have your yarn purchased for the first class. For the Fair Isle Christmas Stocking, you will need 4 colors. 1 skein each of 3 colors plus several yards of the 4th color of a worsted weight yarn such as Patons Decor, Lions Brand Wool Ease, Berroco Comfort.  Gauge is 20 sts/26 rows over 4 inches. you will also need size 7dpns and 2 stitch holders and a tapestry needle.

Our vendors will feature yarn for purchase for the afternoon project, or, you are welcome to purchase your yarn ahead of time. for the afternoon Latvian Fingerless Mitts you will need, 5 skeins of sportweight or DK weight yarn, such as Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport, KnitPicks Gloss DK (approx 184 yds/50 grams. size 4 dpns, stitch markers, smooth contrasting waste yarns and a  tapestry needle. gauge is 27sts/27 rounds over 4 inches.

I had a great time and didn't go too much over budget. I love my stitch markers and the patterns. It is so interesting to see what each shop does with the patterns.

I would like to thank the SPCA for their help this weekend. I believe we sold more tickets than last year. Both the donations that were brought and the donation for the passports will be a big help to them.

The last group I would like to thank, is everyone who bought a passport. You are the ones who make it a success and I would like to thank you for making this so very successful this year.

The shops will be meeting on 10/27/11 to draw for all of the winners. I know this is a big lag time from the shop hop, but there were a variety of commitments with different stores. Please bear with us and if you are one of the lucky winners, you will be contacted on the 27th in the evening.

October....the frost is on the jack-o-lanterns.

    If you have ever spent hours, days, weeks or even month's knitting a project just to have it turn out way too big or small then October's meeting is just what you need.

    Join us as we learn the ins and outs of knitting to gauge. What do those different numbers mean on the yarn and in the pattern? Why did using the wrong size needles not work out? Do you really need to take the time and knit that swatch before you start? These questions and more will be answered on Saturday, October 8th.

    We will also hear final details for our long awaited and much anticipated Retreat. This year will feature a one day retreat on our regular meeting day in November. Christine Hannon has been very busy organizing and finalizing details and cost per person to share with members. Holiday Yarns will present the morning program, box lunch will be brought in and the afternoon session will feature a Fair Isle 3 color Christmas stocking from Patton's.

    

Shop Hop is only a few weeks away!!

Come One and Come All!!

To the third annual Yarn Lover's shop hop, September 30, October 1 and 2, 2011. This exciting event is sponsored by the Twisted Stitches of CNY Guild, In Stitches, Mission Rose, Patchwork Plus, Sheep Thrills, The Knitting Connection, The Yarn Cupboard, All Tied Up Yarns and Salt City Fiber Works. To participate, you must purchase a passport at your favorite yarn store for $5. the benefiting charity is the SPCA. Passports are available now for purchase. Then, just go to 8 of the 9 stops and have your passport stamped at each to be eligible for the drawings. To get a stamp at the SPCA, you must bring a donation of some kind. Eamples are pet food, litter, blankets or towels you no longer use, toys etc.

September is so Bittersweet!

Our carefree days of summer are coming to a close and yet we cannot help but welcome all the joys September holds.

Back to school, back to work, back to Twisted Stitches!! The 2011/12 officers look forward to welcoming everyone back on Saturday, September 10th at 10a.m. Our membership/discount cards will be "Fireball Fuschia" Download your form to fill out and mail or bring with you to the first meeting. We are proud to have 8 partner stores this year, and I can't wait to hear what the program committee ( Betty ) has lined up for us.

Oh, Sweet Summertime!

We, the officers of Twisted Stitches, wish each and everyone of you a very happy summer. We look forward to seeing everyone back at our September meeting. Don't forget , there will be knitting at the wool center during the state fair look for a reminder email from Linda Miller for those of you who already signed up. If anyone wants to get together for a day or evening of knitting, send an email and I will get the word out.
